Haines Kinetic: “Of Course I Still Love You” Mobile/Kinetic Sculpture

This mobile is made from aluminum sheet metal and galvanized steel wire.

Where does the title come from? This mobile was completed on the same day that SpaceX successfully launched humans into orbit. The first stage of the rocket came back to earth and landed on the drone ship “Of Course I Still Love You”. This ocean-going ship was named after sci-fi writer Ian M. Banks, who wrote a book that included a starship by that name.

“Of Course…” is a handcrafted, classic mobile using galvanized steel wire and painted aluminum sheet. It uses rivets rather than the traditional wire loop to attach the shapes. The paint is by Montana Cans (an elite German spray paint company). This mobile is suitable for indoor or outdoor use. Because of its horizontal nature, this is suitable for lower ceilings as well.

Dimensions are roughly 12” high by 29” día. (30 x 74 cm)

Haines Kinetic: “Quadrangles II” Mobile (Kinetic Sculpture)

The original “Quadrangles” sold, so I redid the design with some modifications. the sheet metal is a little thicker and are attached by rivets this time. I also chose a different paint scheme: red, black, white and granite gray. Dimensions are the same as before: 11” high by 10” dia. (28 x 25 cm). Because it is made of galvanized steel, this mobile is suitable for indoor or outdoor installation.

Haines Kinetic: “Danger” Mobile (Kinetic Sculpture)

This mobile is made from bits of scrap sheet metal I had left over from other projects. The jagged angles and anxious reds and blacks invoke a sense of danger. This mobile is my first using wire rivets instead of the traditional loop to attach the shapes to the wires. It takes longer to create, but the rivet connection is much cleaner and elegant.

This is another petite mobile, measuring 13 inches high by 15 inches in diameter (33 x 38 cm). Suitable for indoor or outdoor installation.
